Our Story

HOW IT STARTED
Our story started 150 years ago, when the seven Hammond brothers ditched their shovels for timber mills in the height of the gold rush era, making their fortune transporting timber from the region to Melbourne. Since then, 5 generations of the Hammond family hold a name synonymous with the local area.

HOW IT’S GOING
Twenty five years ago, Tony and Nedra Hammond left successful careers in hospitality and events in Melbourne, to make a century old property on the Goulburn River, their home. A place too good not to share (or show off), they’ve slowly transformed the property from sheep grazing to vineyard to hosting visitors from around the world.

Hide & Seek holiday homes and Glamping Huts are designed by us and built with the help and support of some very skilled industry friends. Local materials are used where possible, and most of the stunning timber features and furniture are made from locally sourced wood, milled and handcrafted on site.

Hide & Seek wines are fruit driven, in harmony with nature and ready to be shared at a moment’s notice. As fifth generation farmers of the district, we understand our terroir and love the unique qualities of a location that continues to thrill and amaze us daily.  Our wines are superbly balanced, fresh and informal with great character and a smooth finish – we let our fruit do the talking.

The property has been created as a place for people to connect with nature and each other. We’ve been lucky and eternally grateful to tap into a talent pool of amazing family and friends, who’ve supported with advice, optimism and professional assistance. Coming together and rolling up their sleeves and getting the job as allowed us to create the incredible retreat we call Hide & Seek.

We’ve bult strong community ties with local staff, suppliers and the many great guests who’ve become friends of the family, over the years. This is the source of our inspiration for everything we do and our commitment to creating a place that builds connection to each other.

Glamping Huts

For stargazing without roughing it, our Glamping Huts have been custom designed and made onsite at Hide and Seek to offer an easy way to get closer to nature without compromising on privacy and comfort.

Two walls are openable so you can let fresh breezes flow through and know nature is always in view. The mod cons are there to remind you that you won’t be roughing it.  The clean span roof panel is for stargazing while snuggled up under soft sheets. There’s a kettle for a morning cuppa, a mini fridge for drinks and on the outdoor deck, alfresco dining of course. Two sun loungers on the grass are for soaking up the sun and cloud watching.
